Pimlico Guards ESU

Our Explorer unit is the Pimlico Guards ESU. We meet at our Scout Hall on Monday from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

The Explorer Young Leader Unit begins at the age of 14 until the age of 18, with around 6 months of flexibility at the beginning of the section. Explorers meet together weekly, with leaders guiding the sessions and supporting the young people. However, the main difference at Explorers is that the young people are now taking charge of their programme.

Independence

Explorers have the opportunity to take charge of their own Unit. This means they can plan their own programme, camps, and activities. Doing this is not only great fun, but teaches skills for life such as budgeting, time management, teamwork and leadership.

On top of our weekly meetings, the Pimlico Guards ESU regularly goes camping around the UK and abroad. Explorers will also have the opportunity to join Duke of Edinburgh expeditions with the District and County, allowing them to earn their DofE Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. Doing your Duke of Edinburgh with the Scouts gives the best possible experience, as our leaders are highly qualified and enthusiastic.

Being an Explorer is taking advantage of the best Scouting has to offer. We are always open to more Explorer Scouts, so if this sounds like something you’d enjoy, get in contact today.

International

There are regular international opportunities for our Explorer Scouts. In the last few years, the Pimlico Guards ESU have been to a Jamboree in Switzerland, along with the World Scout Jamboree in the United States of America. We also have Explorers attending the next Jamboree.

International experiences have been at the core of Scouts since we were founded. Scouts can meet people from across the world, exchange neckers, learn about other cultures, and have a great time. The Explorer Leaders will help prepare the Explorers for these trips at the weekly meetings and regular camps.

Leadership

Leadership is not a skill usually taught at school. Scouting is the perfect place to learn to be a leader, both within the Explorers, but also as a Young Leader at the 16th City of Westminster. Being a Young Leader gives you the opportunity to help our adult volunteers run a successful programme, and helps you work towards your Duke of Edinburgh and Young Leader Award.

We encourage all our Explorers to get stuck in with leadership. One of the best ways Scouting helps young people is by teaching them to lead by example, understanding other people’s perspectives, and being accountable to their fellow Scouts.

Badges

In Explorers there are a wide variety of Awards you can get stuck into. There are the Chief Scout Platinum and Diamond Awards, which can be built on to gain the Queen’s Scout Award (the highest Award in Scouting). You can also work towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award as well as your Explorer Belt.
